Obviously, the situation is very different than the one I found (in Italy) last November.
I believe that it is very important for Italy – and indeed for the European and global economies- that the third Eurozone economy is not adding fuel to a series of local fires.
” Mario Monti is convinced that „Greece will remain in the euro.” The prime minister made the comment during an interview with PBS, in which he emphasised Greece’s great efforts on the path of reform and credibility.
Even if the country weren’t able to fully meet all its commitments, „these efforts are nevertheless very important for changing and modernising their society.”
Mario Monti said the crisis is now focussed on Spain, but praised it for its budget control and structural reforms. In an interview with PBS the prime minister said, „I think that Spain is on the right track and will get out of the danger zone.”
But if, „it is imperative that each country put its own house in order it is equally necessary for better governance of the whole, not just the individual parts and I think that month after month this is happening because the Union European Union as a whole is. (AGI)
