Rome – Nobel Prize winner and Senator Rita Levi Montalcini died at home today in Rome.
She was 103. In 1951-52 she discovered the Nervous Growth Factor (NGF) and in 1986 won the Nobel Prize for medicine for this discovery that has been of fundamental importance for understanding cell and organ growth. NGF also plays an important role in understanding cancer as well as diseases such as Alzheimers and Parkinsons. (AGI)
